In 2011, Google partnered with the Puerto Rico Bridge Initiative (PRBI) to improve broadband speeds and costs in Puerto Rico. One of the significant challenges facing Puerto Rico is that most Internet traffic is routed to the US mainland. By deploying Google Global Cache at the PR-NAP in Puerto Rico and peering with PRBI in Miami, it was possible to reduce the amount of Internet traffic traversing the key links.
